I am torn between getting some red ceibals, or their smaller, more passive cousins the Oblongums..??

What does everyone think will be more interesting..??

I would go for oblongums simply for their temperament. I had a group of ceibals that I tried to grow out and all they did was beat on eachother and hide. Both are beautiful fish, so you won't go wrong with either.

I like them both.I 5 red ceibal and 4 oblongum in a 40 breeder and have had no problems.Going to seperate them soon.So far the oblongum have more color.Largest are probably 2.5" now

Need more info like tank size and tank mates.

Both species dont like their own kind very much.

My Oblongum were fine in a 36" tank even with other tankmates and when breeding. Mot sure if the RC would be as tolerent.

My male Oblongum is almost 6" and female was 4.5" when she died. Male is really sad now and not active and drab coloring.

Good luck finding Oblongum as they are pretty hard to find. RC are MUCH more common and easier to find. I do know someone that has 1" Oblongum babies if you are interested.

They will be going in a 55g tank... and I want a species tank with a couple pairs.... thats it...

I would go with the Oblongums. You really can't put them both in the same tank. My Oblongums are very mellow where as my Reds are MUCH more aggressive. I'm more attached to my Oblongums.
