Hey guys, i have had a RCS tank now for about a month and most of the babies have to grown to adults now. There are about 15 of them in my small ten gallon tank right now. I feed them flakes, algae discs, and once a week of carrots and cucumber. What are these small yellowish sesame seed sized objects appearing in my tank? I sometimes see them under the back of some of the shrimps. and even on some of my plants(fake) real are comin in.

It is possible that they are eggs. It is common practice for some species of FW shrimp to drop or abort the eggs during their first pregnancy or during a stressful time period due to poor conditions. since you mentioned that they recently grew to adults it is probably the first reason and in their next pregnancy they should go full term. the other possibility is that you may have snails laying eggs in the tank, however this theory is very unlikely since most times snails are introduced to the tank via real live plants which your tank does not yet have

there are no snails and there are alot of "eggs" on the bottom of the tank. should adding real plants promote their breeding? i dont know. any info is accepted.
thanks

real plants will only benefit the shrimp and the tank since they will use some of the nitrates. plus, real plants will eventually offer better hiding places for your shrimp and shrimplets

could be an amphipod, how is your maintenance? do they move? I have never had a shrimp drop its eggs honestly and I have 15 shrimp tanks going. They do carry their eggs under their "tail" in their swimmerettes. The eggs are either yellow or green in color.

do you know what the nitrate levels should be for a shrimp tank? Mine is about 5 and i will add plants in a couple of days. Thanks

not trying to contradict you cuz i know you have tons of experience (thats why i ask you all my shrimp questions) but I have had 3 CRS that dropped their eggs. those eggs were red, but I have seen many green and yellow eggs on other species too

but do you guys know if they drop the eggs, do the eggs still hatch? thanks

IME no. the mother will constantly fan the eggs to supply oxygen to them. i tried rounding up the eggs once and placed them in a net near the air stone and they still never hatched.
