1) Ammonia burn. Should be come out from your sand. Did you clean your tank regularly. Normal the fish will die if too serious. Birchir very scare of having this problem. Started off with red belly then spread to the body and gone case. Clean your tank regularly. 2) It might also be hairly worm on the body. Can check closely on the body if you can see very fine look like white hair worm on it. if yes can use copper safe to kill the worm or malachite green.
