So last night I was woke up by a loud sound, and I had no idea what it was. Thinking it was the ice maker I rolled over and tried to go back to sleep, but I heard it again. So I go in the kitchen and hear it again, and noticed it was coming from the kids play room. It was my male RD going crazy on the female. I turn on the lights and he stops she was beat up but not bad. She has all kinds of hiding place but won't hide from. I have a big clay pot for them to breed in when they are ready. I also have two medium sized clay pots with the bottoms busted out so she can hide in those but she wont do it. So I took the old plastic clay pots that I had in there before, and put them back in. The plastic pots will float if there isn't anything holding them down. After that everything seemed to get back to normal. Tonight I am going to take them out and rearrange the tank. I am going to introduce her first and keep him out for awhile is this a good idea??? Also do you all think a convict would be a good dither fish for him???

In order for it to work in a 90 they'd need to have a very strong bond, and even then....
I heard from a knowledgeable fish guy that cutting off the anal fins of overly aggressive males will take away from their speed and ability to maneuver. This in turn makes it easier for the females to evade his violent episodes. This is done to facilitate reproduction by reducing the risk to breeding females.
Needless to say, I don't recommend this. Just thought it was an interesting tidbit of info.

Man that is crazy to much for me. The two floating plastic flower pots seem to be working good.
