i've had a male jack dempsey in my thirty gallon tank for about a year.. he's currently about four inches long and i just added a female red devil about four a half inches long.. i thought the red devil would be more aggresive and hold its ground but my jack is whipping it pretty badly.. do i need to seperate them or jus wait it out?!

is a very bad mix. you have to get a seperator, so your red devil can have time to settle down. Red devil get meanner when they reach 6" to 7".

You definitely need a larger tank.Like maybe55 gal or a 75 gal. Your tank is way too small. What are the dimensions of the 30? Is it long or high? :D

Your fish are gonna grow funny if you don't have a bigger tank. I have a 4 inch devil that would give that jack a heart attack. But, don't for a second think that devil won't whip that Jack right back. That happened because you put the devil in the Jack's tank. You need to seperate them in a bigger tank with territories and let them sort it out. I would say 75 minimum.

P.S. Anybody that wants to buy a 4" Devil that is meaner than my 7" inch male dovii was let me know.

its like two feet tall and three feet long about a foot and a half deep.. they seem to be tolerating each other better now and don't fight... i do intend to but a 100 gallon soon
