Hi everyone , I have a red devil I just purchased last week , the previous owner could not tell me if male or female .
Can anyone here tell from the first 2 photos . Age of Big Daddy unknown but 3 times the length of Max my 10 month Midas

Next question is about my other baby I was told he is male and a full Midas however I'm starting to wonder if he is a X with red devil as Ive read that is quite common .
So please look at last 2 pics of Maximus my Midas and give me your opinions please ., He is 10 months old

i should add that Big Daddy is timid and shy doesn't chase my finger along the tank , just hangs in the same corner . but Maximus is the opposite he will head butt the tank as I walk by , follow my finger along the tank trying to bite it through the glass .

To me the first fish looks female, slope of the head gives it away.

There is no clear way to tell Midas, from Red Devil's unless they were bought from a reputable dealer. Heck your Midas looks like an older/bigger version of my boy Casper yet another member of the Amphilophus family a Sagittae.20190405_201249.jpg

Thankyou my red Devil behaves more like a female from what I've read not aggressive at all really . That's interesting about the sagittae , max and your Casper do look alike . I'll read up about them . I got my Midas from the actual breeder and do have pics of his mum and dad .
My red devil however I know nothing about and got her from a university student who knew nothing about the red devil .
