red devil and oscar having babys?

ive had a red devil and an oscar for about 3 years, they always move the gravel around so it looks like they'll lay eggs, but yestarday when i woke up and turned the lights on, all the gravel was pushed aside..so i thought hmm maybe this time something will happen. so i came back about an hour later to find about 300 eggs. the red devil is the mother, the oscar is the ONLY one the mom lets near her eggs..and when the oscar goes by them he sorta does a twitching motion a few times. then leaves. could he be fertilizing the eggs? i dont even know if its possible for a red devil and an oscar to have fry. any input would be helpful. thank you

It wont be a new species it will be a hybrid........

The other possibility is that they are both female, sometimes two females will pair up and one will lay eggs but they are never fertilized. have the eggs turned color?
