We were able to breed our "Red Devils" we are unsure if the male is a true red devil but we know the mom is. Anywho. The babies are very dark with the dark lines on the sides. Is this normal for red devil babies or is the father a hybrid like originaly thought? I can post a pic if necessary I don't have any at this particular moment just wanted to know if any one knew off the top of their head. thanks in advance.

nobody knows anything about red devils

No, it's normal. They will be a dull gray/brown color with stripes until they reach about 2-3" then they will "peel" to the adult orange/pink/red/white coloration.

Most baby cichlids have this dull coloration. It's how they camouflage themselves from being detected by predators while they're still young.

This is indeed normal. Red Devils/Midas do not normally start out with color. They will start to color up anywhere between one and two inches.

Well, I guess we posted at the same time Natalie.

still could we maybe get a couple of pics?:grinno:
o and congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

ok thanks fo the info. i never realy thought about preditors in the wild. i can try to get pics but it may be difficult as i have moved the babies and the parents to differant tanks.
