I have a 55 gallon with 4 red devils and I was wondering how long will it take to breed red devils the two are equal size. they slap tails and puff out their gills and show intentions of breeding. I need some help please:D

My male was a solid 10" before he bred, even then it took 3 spawns before he fertilized the eggs, when they get that size you will need a tank with a divider to breed them in, the males get extreamly agrressive towards the females during courting, and it is almost impossible to breed them w/o a divided breeder setup, as the male will usually end up killing the female.

It all depends on the size of the tank. I had a breeding pair, male is 10" female was 7" and they bred just fine in a community setting (tank size was 210 and 360 gallon).

I've got to say you're not going to have 4 in a 55 for too long.

Agree, a 55 gallon is very small for one devil, they are the fastest growing fish ever, my male grew 3 times the size as an Oscar the same size in 6 months, had the O in a larger tank BTW.

Prepare yourself. Your going to have to sell the other two. Invest in a DIVIDER. It will save you a fish. Another idea is since the tank is so small, buy 1 or 2 good sized convicts as a dither. Start beefing up their diet and more water changes. Good luck and watch them raise fry.
