Why would my red devil go from an orange to a pink? he is very active and eats well just strange why he was orange when i got him now he is pink after 4 weeks.

Haven't you heard? Pink's the new Orange. It's fabulous.

Seriously though, could be stress. Did you add fish, change gravel, background, decor? Does he have some new tail to play with?

Added a Hypsophrys nicaraguensis.

Ph 7.0
Kh 4
Gh 6

Correct chemistry for Devil/Parrot/Oscar?

rd/midas don't usually change color due to mood unless they're the barred variety....however they do go through various color changes throughout their life. it could be that or could be diet related. certain foods are better at bringing out the bright orange/red in a fish...could be that he was on a different diet before you got him. you could try giving him some krill every once in a while or try supplementing his diet with a pellet that is higher in astaxathin. :)

I am feeding him NLS jumbo fish formula and frozen blood worms. I will look for a food with astaxathin in it.

I agree with Jason_S. I use NLS and Krill and it really brings the color out If you look in the Media Loung you'll see a picture of my RD in post pics of you RD thread. I would add the lighting plays a part in helping show off the colors of your fish also. Under a light strong in the blue spectrum your fish will look washed out. A full spectrum 67K with a spike in the red will help also, if you really want the red to Glow use two bulbes one 10K and a strong red 33K bulb as examples, there are other combinations but this one will give you good results. The lighting plus the quality food will give you the results you're looking for.

I should have added, some are just more red than others. My previous post was ment as a way to show off or increase the color of the fish but if the fish is naturally pale or as alot of white pigmentation you can only do so much and it may never be as bold as a fish that naturally has more red in it. We can only work with what we have they do go through color changes as they grow my RD was yellow when I got him @ 2".

What size is your RD, as well as the Nic that you recently added?

Also, same info for any other tank mates, and what size is this tank?

As Camshaft stated, it could just be stress, and I suspect that most of the RD's in AU would be RD/Midas crosses, so yes the change in color could be due to stress, especially if it's a juvenile.

As far as what you are feeding, you don't need to add anything to the diet. NLS contains plenty enough astaxanthin to provide your fish with all of the natural color enhancing agents that it requires. See the fish below for an example of what a good quality RD looks like when fed NLS.
