I Have a Red Devil (Sold as such, Petsmart, go figure, but most likley a mixed) and he is changing from a almost entirely white to orange to now orange with black splotchs on his head, fins and such, he is for sure not sick as he is close to boss (3rd in line) but what is the deal?? Is he blacking up because he comfortable?? Is it because I have a black gravel with a dark blue background??

I will post pics later tonight as I need to get my camera.......

when mine was small, maybe between three and four inches, he used to develop black around his mouth and fins. i thought it was kind of weird, but didn't pay much attention until i noticed him (or her) glancing off the rocks. at that point i treated the tank for parasites, and as my fish got better, the black faded back to orange. i'm not saying one necessarily has to do with the other. i have heard of people having red devils start to get a little black and then having the color disappear again on its own. it is also possible your red devil has more pure red devil in it than you think. either way, i wouldn't worry to much about it, i'm sure it'll be fine

your RD could have been flashing becuase of water conditions. fish will often flash when water conditions aren't at their best

molting.. completely normal

yea its alrite..............I belivce its changing due to it being comfortable and because its natural.

I Mean of him now, and then I will do a 25% WC and see what he looks like in a day or 2.......
