I'm looking at getting a few red devil babies 4-5 inch to grow out.

Is there any way of predicting the adult colour at this small size before their final colour change without seeing the parents?

I am after the really bright red version.

I would suggest trying to get one that has as little of the juvenile grey coloration as possible. also, the last one i bought had some yellow in him, and his colors turned out beautifully. i do agree though, anything can happen, so just get your five or six and keep the nicest

I GOT BREEDING PAIR OF REDDEVIL X MIDAS SEEN LOTS OF FRY AND I KEEP THE ONES I THINK WILL HAVE THE BEST COLOR AND I AM ONLY 50% RIGHT . I SEE THE ONES I TRADED MY BUDDIES OR SOLD TO THE LFS AND WISH THOSE WERE THE ONES I KEPT DEVILS KEEP CHANGING COLOR RIGHT UP TO 6 INCH IN SIZE. I SEE A BLCK SPLOTCH POP UP ON A WELL COLORED PART OF BODY AND THEN THOSE SCALES UNDER THE BLACK SPOT TURN RED OR WHITE YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY WILL LOOK LIKE.

No. I've a Red Devil Right now that had black bars and intense red color when I got her as a juvie. I've had her about 6 months and now she is just that pale orange/pink color you so often see in them. I don't think there's any way to tell. If you have your heart set on a particular color pattern, I'd buy an adult.

Trying to find a red devil/midas that will turn out bright red when adult is impossible.
However, trying to find a red devil/midas that will become lighter is color or white will be somewhat easy. If you pick a fish that is almost all white from the juvi stage it will be lighter when adult. But most dark RD on the juvi stage will always turn out lighter when it matures.
