would it be alright to use a 55 for a growout for a red devil, he will be moved to an 80 within a year and i am going to get him as small as possible, also do you know how to tell the sex of a red devil?
tank is 48 inches long 21 inches high 13 inches wide.
i have 2 aquaclear 70s
tank top and light
250 watt fully submersible water heater
gravel
various assorted rocks
master test kit
water conditioner
and if he reaches 16 inches into an 100 gallon eventuallly

I've got a Red Devil/Midas that I've had for going on 2 years now in a 55 with two Emperor 400's for filtration. Change the water weekly. Feed twice a day. He's in there alone. He hates all other fish. Got a flower pot for him to hide in. Piece of driftwood and a few pieces of lava rock to play with. He's about 10 inches. I think a 55 gallon tank will last many many years for a single Midas/red Devil. .

AFor a while, I think that would be fine, alone. Upgrade to a 75 eventually.

I agree with ewurm, I think a 55 would be great for him to grow in for his first year then after that he will need a 75. They get big! I saw a 3 year old male in the shop the other day and when I saw it my jaw dropped! I was like WTH mine is going to get that big :WHOA:

I don't see a problem with it. As stated your ready to upgrade eventually so I say go for it...
