I just noticed my red devil has all these small holes on his head and around his eyes and below his jaw. Whats weird about them is they are symmetrically and almost look natural like they are suppose to be there. The ones below his jaw i remember seeing for as long as I've had him but all these other ones just showed up all of a sudden. His energy is the same (crack addict crazy) and no mood changes. What could this be? Is it normal?

Ok so here are a few pics its kind of hard to see cause he wont sit still for me to take pics but anyway so I moved the red devil out of his 55 that he was in by himself into a 35 because i needed the 55 urgently for my tigerish because I didn't want to mess around with the tiger cause he was expensive. Anyway I did this a few weeks ago i try to keep on top of water changes at least once a week. The filter for my 35 is kind of crappy so i have been planning on getting him a better filter until my 1000 gallon indoor pond is done which he will go in along with some of my other fish however I have not gotten around to that yet. I feed him hikari sticks which have a high nutritional value to them. He has never been a big eater he only eats on occasion and doesn't eat nearly as much as my others (oscars, arowana, gator gar). The thing that makes me question whether this would be hole in the head disease is why are the holes in a pattern and symmetrically almost like its natural?

I had this same scare with my GT but it turned out to be just natural, symetrical sensory receptors in the face.

Not sure if this is what you've encountered though, pictures would be helpful.

Yup looks like hole in the head.

I'm not sure if that's hith, but if it is, treat with prazi-pro, dip food in vita-chem, and keep up on wc's

To be honest I can't relly tell if it is or isn't HITH from those pictures.

The best thing to do is test your water. Ideally you want Nitrates below 20 ppm, also testing your tap water will give you a good idea where you stand in this regard. 50% weekly water changes are a must, vacuuming the gravel to keep the substrate clean and removal of all uneaten food, a regular filter maintenance schedule to prevent too much waste from building up in the media, along with a good diet consisting of a high quality pellet as the staple such as NLS for example. The addition of a vitamin block to the tank will also be helpful. Keep the temp around 80, keep the tank clean and the water fresh. If you have to go the medication route then Metro is the one to use. In most cases a clean healthy environment will do it. The number one thing is to keep the envoronment as clean as possible at all times.
