hi all...i have a male red devil that i got 16 months ago at about one inch long...as of today he is just about ten inches and thick, probably a little over four inches from top to bottom...now, i have read that they don't stop growing until about three years or so. Based on that, does anyone have any guesses as to how big mine could possibly get? i realize its a crapshoot, but i'm hoping he'll be a real monster...any info would be appreciated

9 times out of ten it will max out at 14 inches, because most rd have midas strain in them.but if u have a pure reddevil from a trust worthy breeder like jeff rapps he will stop at 12 inches.

It depends on tank size also, what size is it in.If u do a 25 to 50 percent waterchange once a week that will bring out colors and rapidly speed up growth.

right now he is in a 55 gallon with a belly crawler pike. i thought he would be okay in the 55 for a while, but since i've put him in there he's gotten so big so fast, i know i'll have to upgrade sooner than later. i do a fifty percent water change once a week religiously, and i feed him earth worms, blood worms, brine shrimp (almost too small to bother with, i know) but his staple diet is hikari gold, and since i've been feeding that his colors are beautiful, deep orange. any suggestions on other foods that he might like? seems like he's gotten very picky since i started feeding the hikari, he really loves it...used to gobble up krill, but now he won't touch it

If you want him to grow any more, I'd have to suggest getting at least a 75gal as soon as possible. If you ask me, the 55gal is too small for him now, though obviously he can technically fit.

12" to 14" and mean as hell

My fish is getting pretty close to the 5 inch range now and I'm wondering at what time I should seriously considering getting my 90 to 100 gallon tank? He is currently in a 60 gallon that is 15 inches wide and 48 in length. I'm not planning on moving untill I finish school within the next 8 months or so and would like to put off getting his permanent home as long as I possibly can so I can avoid setup only to have to strip it down a few months later when I move out of Cali.

At the same time tho, I dont want to take even the slightest chance of stunting his growth. So when would be a good time for me to consider my new tank?

Please don't say ASAP because that wont help me any. At about how many inches should I actually consider this?
Thx.

I don't think you need to worry about stunting his growth...I would say he's fine for now, but i guess that all depends on what else you have in there with him. is he alone or does he have tankmates?
