I'm new to MFK and I don't know how to make my own thread so I'll just ask my question on this thread if that's okay. So I've had a red devil for about half a year and ever since I got him/her it's had vertical bars on it and I'm confused because I'm pretty familiar with Red Devils. Can someone help me on this plz. I need to know if it's just its coloration or wild caught idk..

1. you made your own thread, congrats!
2. I know zero about cichlids lol.

For years just about any of the Amphilophus complex that came from the great lakes of Nicaragua were called red devils.
In order to truly identify it, you would need to know what lake its ancestors came from.
this is Amphilophus sp amarillo

below a young Amphilophus flaveolus

There are perhaps a dozen more species out there that don't have the normal catchal name, pink/red/yellow red devil/midevil appearance

Lmao I copied and pasted my last post from another thread lol and I forgot to delete the first part. My bad. But I looked at some of those photos and my red devil does have some resemblance of some of those, what does that mean though?? Is it rare or just uncommon?? I'll post a photo in a minute. Hold on

At the age (looks small yet) compared to the (what looks like) pea gravel, it's impossible to tell.
It may grow up to be the typical red devil coloration yet, all red devils start out the color or yours.
