time to upgrade my red devil's tank. if i get a footprint like 8 x 2.5 will i be able to keep other fish with him? he's been a loner for most of his life. i suspect it has a lot to do with individual personality, just looking for personal experiences. otherwise, he is going into a 90 or 180.

he's around 12" and growing, when i set up a larger tank i'd like to put more fish in it. the 180 would be a lot easier to fit, but i'm worried that he would still be agro in it.

I would go with the otherwise option: 90g......A Red Devil who has been ALONE for its whole life is pretty much a fish that lives up to its nameRED DEVIL......

RD personalities are always larger than their tanks. If you are lucky yours will like other fish or at least tolerate them. (i'm lucky mine likes the JD's he is with) More likely your RD will fight the other fish, just keep an eye on it and see what happens, just be ready to pull the fish out if needed.

thanks i am leaning towards this option. probably not a permanent solution, i feel like he demands a lot more space. it helps to hear other people's thoughts, if anyone else has similar experiences.

yeah i agree if he is already that large and has pretty much been alone then he wont tolerate tankmates, this goes for pretty much any of the large cichlids needless to say the ones who are already borderline on tankmates even if raised with them
