Hello!
IMG-20110904-00716.jpg

Hello!
I just registered to this website, I’ve started to navigate through the site and it seems quite informative! I'm not sure where I should be posting about my fish being ill, I couldn't get into the chat, after trying four times. So I’m sorry if this is not where I should be posting, but I’m worried and desperate.
I have a red devil fish. I have had her for 9 years and I’m not sure how old she was when I got her, possibly a year. About a month ago she started to lie on her side at the bottom of the tank. After going to several stores trying to find answers I was told she was "sulking" and it was nothing to worry about. After a couple of weeks, there was no improvement and she started to have holes in her fins. I did some research and went back to some stores. I got some melafix to teat tail and fin rot and have been giving her that daily as well as have put some aquarium salt into the tank. She is still eating, not as often, maybe 4 pellets a week (very unlike her - she is a big eater). Her face now seems to be almost decaying, at first I thought maybe it was hole in the head disease, but I don't think it is after looking at pictures of hole in the head. The store told me buying the meds for hole in the head is very harsh if that is not what she has, and the woman was worried it will kill her instead of help her. It’s now been another couple of weeks and she doesn't seem to be getting worse, but also does not seem to be getting better.
Any suggestions would be SO much appreciated!!!!

Michelle

Ok, are there any medications you would reccomend for hole in the head? She is in a 31 gallon tank right now, waiting for her to heal to move her into her new tank. Her old one which was bigger cracked.

need to treat with an antibiotic.
ANTIBIOTICS
Keep at least one on hand.dissolve in a small cup of tank water before
adding to the tank.
Maracyn-1
maracyn-2
Formalin
Oxytetracyline
Erythromycin
Triple Sulfa
Minocycline
furan 2
melafix (best used as a preventitive not a cure)
pimafix (best used as a preventitive not a cure)

And i say do a 25% water change then treat.
Ps a little to much medication is better that not enought.
He,s in very bad shape do it fast
These are at all the big pet stores.
I would use both at the same time. Maracyn-1
maracyn-2

Crazysteve - Ok!!!! Thank you SO much for the advice, you are saying just to purchase and use one of those antibiotics or all? I think you mean one and if it's maracyn to use 1 and 2? I will do this tomorrow!!!

Cyden8- I change the water and vacuum ou the rocks on a regular basis and have had the water tested alot in the past few weeks and keep being told the water is fine.

Thanks again guys!!!!! I'll keep you postd on how she does

AND INCREACE YOUR WATER FLOW/ OXYGEN . LIKE PUT A POWER HEAD IN THE TANK POINTING UP.
DID YOU TEST..... AMMONIA ?

Hello!
I ended up buying maracyn 1 and 2 and that along with the water changes seemed to have been working. Now I am finished the maracyn (did two 5 day treatments) and she seems to be back to how she was beforte - sick! She's on her side, not eating and one of her eyes is extremely swollen right out. Do you think I should continue with Maracyn (I bought extra), or try a different antibiotic?
