my red devil pair just had babys and they are hatched i was looking in the tank and saw some floating things and im trying to figure out if i should put the fry in a 10 gal by them selfs or do they need to be with the parents? thanks for all hlep

EDIT: i never knew the pair was a pair, they just were always around each other so i never thought of putting them in their own tank so they are in a tank with other cichlids, so they are just circling around the fry..

It depends on how many of the fry you want to keep. The pair should be able to raise some of the fry in the tank w/ other fish, but more will survive if you move them.

im not sure on how many i want to keep ill probly give some to friends that just set up their tanks, and maybe to the lfs and keep a few? but does it matter if i keep them alone or do they have to be with the parents, cause i have 2 breeding nets laying around should i put the fry in those?

You can put the fry i the breeding nets, they dont need the parents. Just make sure you feed the fry often and do frequent water changes!

I have had the privledge of obtaining and breeding a very large pair before.....The male had to be at least 12in from lip to base of tail, with a big attitude to match his big nuchal hump....The female, although much smalller, was still big at 9in.....The pair bred and bred....I must of had 300-500 fry hatch from every set....Yeah, the pair will DEFINATLEY gaurd and "raise" the fry...."The female will suck in a group of fry, don't be scared...All she is doing is cleaning out the fry of any debris....Sometimes she will accidently swallow the fry...Because of this, I decided to siphon out the fry right after hatching and placing them in their own growout tanks...I practice this method on every type of fish I breed now...This way I would be able to have a higher turnout of fry...In the long run, RD's are excellant parents.....
