Here's the scenario. Just yesterday I discovered my FH is a female via the venting method, she is much smaller than the RD that is also in the 30 gallon tank. They have been seperated since day one and both fish are no where near full size. Just out of curiosity I lifted the divider out for a few minute's to see how they would react to each other, there was minimal aggression and so I replaced the divider. Since the minute I replaced the divider the RD uprooted all the plants and is maintaining a "nest" that he has cleared out in the tank. I thought the females cleared the spot. So I guess what I'm asking is should I remove the divider and see how it goes? what do you guys think? I'm more interested to find out if either or both fish are fertile than the actual fry, but since they seem interested in each other what the heck?

id say try it just keep an eye on them.

Just be careful after they spawn. If they lose it, the male might get aggressive and try to kill the female. At least thats what happened to my pair.

I'm leaning towards cutting the divider so that the smaller fish can escape back to her side of the tank. I have taken the divider out completely just to let them interact a little more during the day today while I'm home. He is a little more persistant than I think she is willing to accept at the moment, so maybe if I give her the option to be with him or alone on her side she may come around. Playing hard to get at the moment.

this is what ive heard of being done with fh and it has been successful. to cut a hole only to the size where the female will fit. i would try and watch carefully.

He went nuts and started chasing her all over the place, so I tried the plate method. I will leave this for about a week, and if there are no results I'll try the hole in te divider. I dont want to risk him trapping her in a corner if possible the plate would work...
