So I’ve had my large male red devil for a few years now and he has always been the big boss of my 150gallon tank (right now there is just a medium sized oscar and some convict cichlids) but recently I rearranged my tank and he had been acting very strange, usually he doesn’t stop moving and he always is patrolling his tank, but now he has found a small space against a rock and piece of wood and he wedges himself in there and just chills, he has no disease or anything visual at least and eats just as aggressive as he always has but just recently started to “relax” or even “sleep” in this small space when I’m not giving him attention. Is this because he is bored? Sick? Is this common for large cichlids? He is about 4 years old now and just over 12 inches. My water is perfect too. Should I be concerned?

Should be okay since he is eating and is active. May be he is not thinking the tank to be his territory for now.

Fish sometimes tend to get lazy as they get bigger and older. He may just be comfortable and not feel the need to do much. Or the opposite may be true, and he may not feel comfortable now that his home has been re-decorated without his permission, and be hiding in the cave because he feels insecure. Hard to say which without watching the fish for a while. If he is eating and seems healthy otherwise I would give him some time to adjust before worrying too much.
