Hi everyone would a male red devil be ok in a 75 gal the has been cycling with some african cichlids for about a month now but is a 75 bowfront too small for a red devil??? Any and all input is welcome thx

A female would be okay, not ideal by any means, but she'd be comfortable for a little while. I'd recommend a 125+ gallon for a long term home.

If it's a male - no. A 125 -180 gallon tank would be the minimum for them.

The devil is completely fine in that 75 if you're keeping it solo. Bigger is always better, but it's completely fine to be kept in a 75.

Now, it's a different story if you plan to have tankmates with it.

Ive kept a 12-13" male Midas solo in a 75 for many years. He was boisterous and intolerant of anything else, be it a fish, hand, gravel vac, you name it. He was very active and happy. Just had to keep up on water changes.

I had him in 125 downstairs and he seemed less happy, I really think he wanted to be upstairs with the family and TV in the living room. He was truly a "wet pet" and would play with ping pong balls.

Hi all.

I've got a male Red Devil in a 75 also.. I know he needs a bigger home and I was wondering if I could put him in a 240 with a 5 inch Dovii. Would that work for awhile?

Cheers heaps!

Very risky move in my opinion.
I would not try it unless you have a divider at hand.
Long term the tank is too small for the Dovii alone, let alone the two fish.

Yeah, I know.. I can get a 500 in a couple months from my cousin when he upgrades.
I've put them in together a while ago and they seem to be alright.
Not sure of the Dovii sex though..
