I am thinking about getting a RD or Midas, Jeff Rapps has both in stock, what are the actual differences if any? Size, aggression etc

Cheers

depends on the fishes personality, aside from that they're pretty close. Where you leaning towards any color morphs or any other species? If I were going to order a single amhpilophus from Rapps I'd go with the red head isletas.

+1

Agreed....... It really comes down to do you prefer the big knot-head look of the Midas or a more streamlined appearance (RD). Behavior and care are nearly identical.

Lots of cool related species though. The xanthic or barred sagittae would be a great choice. Nothing other than zaliosus has more speed in this family, but zalios don't come in different colors (and I don't think they're available right now either).

Right now I have citrinellus, labiatus, amarillo, sagittae, chancho, isletas, xiloaensis......I may be missing one or two....... and I'd go with the sagittae if I had to start all over with one fish. Check out Jeff's home page for a cool pic!

The Midas is a thicker, bulkier fish.
I prefer the Citrinellus over the Labiatus myself. I had a wonderfull Rapps Midas years back.
Now I just have a bastard mix from the LFS that looks to have much more Labiatus in him.
But if you are going for a "midas" or a "red devil" Rapps would be a great place to get one. Most LFS just have hybrids.

Agree. Red Devils are allegedly supposed to be meaner than Midas too. IMO They are both going to be aggressive no matter what. Both will make an awesome addition too!

pft.. You and your xanthic saggitae.. Let me know when you want some barred saggitae fry I've got a whole bunch right now. To the OP, if you want I can ship you some saggitae fry for cheaper you can get anything from Rapps. Let me know if that's a species you'd be interested in. The barred fish in my avatar would be the father and he is a monster!!!<< By the way, saggitae are the meanest amphilophus I've ever kept but it's also one of the smallest (not by much.)

I've seen the father that Camphs referring to and he is nasty sweet! He will jump at you to get you. If you put anything in the tank? It gets nailed.

I would love to have him!:D
