i got this fish for free and it seems to me be a mutt but idk

Very nice fish! Yeah I would definitely say he's a mix between the two. He's a little young to tell exactly how's he's going to turn out. His mouth is a little "beaky" like a RDs but he may grow into it.

hybrid. The two names are basically interchangeable unless the fish came from a reputable breeder, because otherwise it is very unlikely that it is a pure midas or RD.

Thx, ya he seems hybridized
he's about 7-8" so far
as far as body he resembles more Rd to me cause of his mouth
can't wait for him to get bigger!

Yeah, to me the face looks RD and the body looks midas. Nice fish btw, I love RD/midas's, unfortunately I've never owned one though.

ya it's a nice fish
to me it looks like a male but i could be mistaken
i love watching him dig cause he builds his own view barrier infront of his rock cave its funny.

Yeah it's a male, females usually don't develope the nuchal hump and have more rounded fins (although I have seen a couple exceptions posted here, but they're pretty uncommon).

Most likely a "mutt" and without a clear above shot of his mouth area you couldn't get a positive ID anyways.
