Red Devil or Midas???????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Either a red devil or midevel (midas x rd).
Midas' snouts arent very long. They are much stockier than rd's.

Any differences between the two like size or temperament. I didn't start hearing the name midas until about 8 years ago. I thought they were all RDs. I know the RDs are nasty and I assume the midas are the same.

Good looking fish... Check out the stickies on this subject. Without clear identification from the reputable supplier it can only be assumed it is a midevil.

If you have to ask then it's a midevil. Still a nice looking fish. Unless you get it from a reputable breeder then it's probably always going to be a midevil.

Temperament is the same as a labiatus (true red devil) & citrinellus (midas). Labiatus are more streamlined & usually have big lips especially is wc. Citrinellus are usually bulkier with a blunt snout & males develop a much larger nuchal hump.

RD's have a thick fat lip............MIdas are more pitbull, boxier.............I enjoy the Midas look more than the other.........Look for the prized nuchal hump on the males..........Some get to a size of a golfball...........

Thanks everyone, I was thinking it may have been a mix. He/She has already taken over my tank in less than on day. I may have to move it to its own tank. I will keep an eye on it.
