Red devil probs..

hey,


as i walked thru my door after i got home from work i glanced at my tank and saw a whole heaps of annibius floating round my tank..i located the piece of wood and saw that it was where the red devil always hangs out...i was wondering is there anyway to prevent this...or do i just have to put up with it??

Yes, they are very territorial so he/she is probably creating a hole inwhich to guard.

Putup, you might as well forget live plants with a Red Devil, they don't eat them but will tear them up...

ditto what scottfree said. red devils especially, will tear up live plants. most big, aggressive fish will. i've even seen buenos aires tetras rip up glossostigma (s/p?)!

You will eventually give up on aquascaping how you want with midas/rd. Mine is only about 5-6" and clears gravel all the way down to the glass in the back corner. I'm just glad it isn't killing everything else....yet.

Mine rearranges everything he can in his tank incessantly, all i have in there now is driftwood and rocks

As much of a pain that mine is, he is my favorite one right now. They just have such personality.

Sounds to me like he/she is just making a home for theirself. Typical behavior if you ask me.

you might try moving the log with the anubias to another side of the tank and putting a different, plant-free log next to his hideout. another option would be to use a light fishing line to tie the anubias to the wood but the red devil would still be able to tear the leaves if he wanted to.
