The only way to accurately tell them apart is venting... and the best food is hikari gold sinking pellets and then add some frozen foods such as frozen brine shrimp as a treat... and blood worms.. i will get pics tommorrow..

heres a pic of my male midas close enuff to red devil love this guy

he looks more RD then midas with those big lips and he is gorgeous...

55 will work for a while but prob the smallest for him to "live" in would be at least a 75g. I would do a 90 for sure if by himself!

I feed mine hikari gold and frozen krill. A 55g would be for fine for about 1 year. When your rd reaches about 9-10" move to a bigger tank like a 75g or a 90g.

18" wide 60 is only 3 feet long though, and I don't think thats long enough.

hikari is good, omega one and NLS are supposed to be high quality as well. I use omega one cichlid pellets and shrimp pellets, hikari sinking carnivore pellets are good and high protein.

Frozen krill is better for larger cichlids than bloodworms and brineshrimp, I think. Earthworms will be happily devoured.

agree with the previous post about krill, I used to use frozen krill as well, but prefer freeze-dried due to cost
