I need some help with something. I'm in a lfs earlier today and I noticed that a couple of the 2" rd's have alot of little nub teeth right up in plain site but the ones at some of the other petstores don't. What's up with that? Is that just another way of determining the difference between a midas and a red devil or is it just the males that get them? Like how some get the humpty hump and some don't. I'm thinking these were true devils because the snouts on these were very long and they were very dirty looking. :uhoh:  :eek3:

I would have figured they'd be set back further in the mouth to where you could only see them if the fish yawed or something but there was no way you could miss it.

Highly doubtful they were pure one or the other, probably just showing more traits of one than the other. That said, teeth showing aren't really a species dependent thing as far as I know, just another individual-fish thing.

Hybrids or not, you will see teeth when they get big enough. Usually around 5 to 8 inches. Or, as early as 3 or 4 inches. I'm not sure whether A. Labiatus and A. Citrinellus are different in this regard. I'd assume both display teeth. If not, wait till they get bigger and start flaring their gills up at you and start biting the glass. Personally, I can tell you I've never kept a Rd/Midas that didn't display teeth at some point. Not to mention, the True Midas I bought from Rapps, looked like "Jaws" from "Moonraker". LOL!

Great googly moogly.

I'm definitely getting one tomorrow. There's just something about them I like. A little spastic but I like the fact they come right to you when you approach the glass. My jag does his own thing. Never hurries to the water line like the others when it's feeding time. The one I'm looking at has black eyes with black trim around it. There was a couple of others that looked pretty cool too. Orange trim around solid black eyes. Well at least I don't have anything expensive to worry about if he decides it's time for everyone to go.

I read this off of some site, I thought it was funny.

"They will display for food, follow you around the room, constantly peer at you with their little innocent looking eyes. In fact, their cheerful coloration and enthusiastic, puppy like behavior is often in shocking contrast to the crafty determination they seem to display in murdering their tank mates." :swear:
