We had our rd and texas together in a 90g corner tank and 2 days ago she chewed up our texas. They have spawned twice this time we took out the flower pot to hatch the eggs ourselves and 3days later she attacked the texas. Was this because we took away her hiding spot and she felt vonerable or why did she suddenly turn on him?
I had never seen any aggression between them before and had only been down looking at them about an hour before. Now over half of our tevases scales are missing and he hardly moves and cannot stay upright he is in another tank now and we are treating him with melafix. Does this poor guy stand a chance?

Well this happens often red devils will snap at any given time its umpredictable when mine almost killed my oscar last night i was forced to take out

50/50 chance of survival and red devil can be mean and is she the female, the texas male?? that is an interesting mix keep me updated on the fry!! but back to the question if you want to continue breeding them put an divider in the middle and the when she lays eggs move the male to her side and vice versa

^^ That's a good idea, I would try that.

Cichlids can attack one another at any time, while it may seem that the RD was the aggressor, you may not want to discount the fact that texas are pretty aggressive fishes as well. They are not equally matched because the scales are not as hard as the RD.

Bad news our texas died and the texas was the male we know the rd was the female because we had crossed him with our bp. Our hope was to have another line of rt's for our rt project guess it won't be until we find another texas.
