I’ve been trying to determine if my little devil is a male or a female, it’s about 2.5-3 inches long so maybe it’s still too small to even vent? As in the vents essentially look the same cause they’re so small at that size but I’m looking for opinions.
What confuses me is the unpaired fins are really pointed even at that size and it’s already developing trailers and maybe a slight nuchal hump. I know females can have that too but at that small of a size? One day I’m leaning towards male, the next female cause of the vent, has me clueless:nilly:

To get a proper venting shot you need to get it from underneath the fish.
A pic of the full fish can help, though these guys are easier in the 4-6 inch range.

Okay fair enough, I’ll play the waiting game then. Not a fan of pulling the fish out of water and stressing it out unnecessarily

I’m sure others could tell from the pics you had…I just suck at it lol
I agree with pulling fish out of water - only time I do is if im moving them between tanks (which in hindsight would have been a good time to get size measurements).

If food motivated, you can get the fish to show you the goods without removing it from the tank. As seen here I teased Toni with a treat till I could get a good pic.

How big? Seems hard to tell at this size, especially without a vent pic. Head profile makes me lean towards male but I could be wrong.
Without any knowledge of the parents, the best you can say is a “midevil,” as most devils or Midas in the hobby today are some combination of both.
Try to get better pics of the white spots, could be ich but it’s hard to tel in the shot.
