Could a female flowerhorn breed with my male red devil? He is about 9in. my lfs is getting 1.5 in. in on wednesday and i want to get maybe two for my 20g. and let them grow a bit and put a female in with the RD. How big would the flowerhorn have to be, and whats the easiest way to sex.

flowerhorn females can lay eggs very young. she could possibly lay at 2.5 to 3 inches. i would wait until she gets bigger than that though or put something in the tank that she can hide from the male inside. it would be better to put her in the tank you intend to breed them in first and let her get used to the tank. then add the male later so she is not trying to get acclimated and running for her life at the same time. give her home court advantage.
he's not very mean at all, there is a 3 inch texasand green terror in there and they do fine, no chasing, etc.
you have to also be careful breeding fh back with pure fish as you take a step backwards. RD will help color and KOK but will also cause heavy pearl loss in a majority of the fish.
