how fast do they grow? im thinking about buying one for a 29g tank and hes about 6" long how long till i upgrade?

Dont get him. you could keep him in a 29 long enough for a water change @ 6". youd need at least a 55, but that would only do you good for about the next 6 months at best. Hes too big for a 29.
