How would you guys rate thier growth rates??Slow med or fast(like an Oscar).

they grow fast but slow down onece they hit about 9 iches

I concur, here are two pics, one in september and one a week ago, he is about 9-10" right now.

I have another question,i just noticed today that my RD is getting some black coloring on its dorsal and tail fins is this normal??

I had one do that developed black on the fins lips around eyes etc etc. Was like that for about 2 weeks and I came home one day and there was not a speck of black on him. Amazing how quick they can change.

Yep, until 10" they can grow half an inch to an inch a month. Got to power feed that first year to get size on them. After hatching takes them about 2-3 months to get an inch. After that its all down hill.

Depending on water changes, the Midas DEvil grows really fast...My record is a 1 inch fry growing to a THICK 7 inches within 10 months............The secret, 40% water changes every week....Water quality at its purist is a most.......Even without the water changes, they grow quick.....But having a varied diet is also a must..............Krill, flakes, pellets, peices of shrimp...............

Agreed, with any fish, water changes and diet are important. I'vd had them grow up to 1 1/4" in a month. I would say they grow fast.
