Well i know its been asked before, but do YOU think it is fine to keep a red devil in a 55 gallon tank? I really like these guys but i don't have room for a 75, and i don't really like going with a minimum tank size since those don't make for the very happiest of fish and require maximum tank mainanence.

so do you think i should go with a red devil or should i go with something else like a green severum or jack dempsey or whatnot?

NO not at all they grow like crazy and will outgrow it in no time.

no they won't!!

i kept a red devil in a 55 for 2 years and he was fine

you should be fine for a couple of years!!

severums are a better choice as are jack dempseys others to look into would be salvini and grammodes the last two would probably be more to your liking if you are interested in a red devil

i want a big "wet pet" to go in the tank.

the severum is pretty cool, but i really like the look of the RD.

hmmm maybe a severum and a delhezi? or is there something that gets a little bigger then a severum for a 55 gallon tank?

the biggest fish that would be good in there would be something that maxs' out at about 10inches!!

considering this is a standard 55?

yes, standard 55

after looking through a few profiles of fish, severum and jack dempsey are about the closest thing.

for filtration what would be recommended? AC110? more?

EDIT: texas cichlid would work!

if you can get ahold of a 60g .. it would be better for your RD just cuz its a little bit wider.... you could def keep him in there for a couple of years... then when he gets bigger, get him a bigger tank.. or who knows.. you might find something else you're interested in and wanna trade him in. ;)

DOOOO IIIIIIIIT!!!!!!

55 gallon would be ok for a juvenile Red Devil but not for the long haul. I have one in a 55 gallon tank now, with another in a 75 gallon, and I think the 75 is to small for him. I was out today pricing a 150 and 220 gallon tank!!

ya i kinda figured most people wouldn't think it would be fair for the fish, thats why i decided to ask.

i'm starting to think more severum then anything, as i've heard they really get to like their owner and are hand fed easily and are very friendly, not to mention they can have a fish or two in the tank aswell.

but would the AC110 work for the 55 with a large cichlid in it? thats almost 10X filtration.
