Can this combo work, givin the space,
in a 6x2x2.
I realy like RD's specially the giants.
thinking of moving one of my big oscars
into a 6x2x2 and having a RD as a tankmate,
could this work if i introduce the RD as a juvinile?
the oscar is mellow as, just dosnt like other oscars
except for its mate.

anyway, tell me what youy know

cheers

imo i would say yes if they are the only fish in the tank. what size is the oscar and what size juvi are you planning on putting in the tank

Depends on the temperament of the RD. Might work well while it's young, providing the Oscar can't fit it in his mouth. but once the RD gets bigger he could beat on the Oscar or worse kill it.

ime oscars and devils don't mix well. the bigger o will harass and bully the smaller devil. but once the devil gets larger the tables will turn and the devil will maim or kill the oscar.

the oscar is 15'', has three 3'' female lombardoi in the current tank 6x18x18,
they've gone without being eaten for a year or so.
I was thinking a RD about 3-5''.
its the RD Im concernd about, not the oscar.
but I've seen 15-16'' RD's kept with big goldfish, jaguars and even chocolate cichlids.
would it be worth a shot?

The one thing you always read is, it depends on the fish. I have a 9" female RD (finley vented her the other day) that is fairly mellow and I say fairly mellow because she doesn't go out of her way to start trouble but when push comes to shove she'll stand her ground against my Trimac and I have a 7+" male RD that's a Physco. Oscars can not hang with a big RD that made up it's mind it wants the tank. If you have a 15" Oscar I wouldn't risk it, it might be fine for a while but if that O picks on that RD when it's small that RD will more than likly kill that O when it's big enough. My two cents.

im with this guy, RD is one strong fish when adult

It does depend on tempermant of the Devil. It's up too you if you wanna risk getting that one in a million Devil that's aggression doesn't conform to the normal temperment of it's kind. They are called red devils for a reason. Also the O's were used to they're tankmates. Happened with me and a redtail cat he didn't eat his small tankmates a 3" O and 3" Dat but when I introduced some 3"scombs and a 9" Aro they kept disapearing. That is probaby why you suffered no predation from them. Now you'll be introducing a new fish and one that looks very much like a goldfish(to the O's anyway). If they've eaten feeders in the past it could be a recipe for heartbreak.

dont think i will risk it, but a devil and a jag, if they grow together from about 3-4''
could it work in the long run? I have a 3'' jaguar at the moment,
Im just asking here so i dont have o start another thread

I'd say it is possible. I've never done it myself but I have seen it done. However, if I were going to do it I would start off with my Jag being larger than the RD. When my Jag was young it was pretty non-confrontational and I imagine that the RDs will strike out earlier than he did. I'm still not sure on tank size though.
