wild caught devils are awesome cause u will see them use there eating habits that u dont see captive breed use...such as searching for insects in detritus and the substrate..get them from rapps
how big of a tank are you trying to put them in. and yes those eating habits do show so if youd like to keep them doing it i would advise collecting some insects from the place your catching them in...the pond i caught my wild female had tons of water beetles and i would catch them and put them in every two weeks...and she search through and move gravel all over to get them. good luck
i agree completely, get them in a like a 125 or so by themselves and they will be awesome. i have a big female, about 10 inches and chunky and still growing, and she is by far the coolest fish i've ever owned, you will not be disappointed....post pics if you get them, and good luck!
Thanks for the replys everyone. My real concern is that the male and female get along. Breeding them would be great but doesn't have to happen.
They will be in an 85gallon (48" x 18" x 23") tank until thus summer. I will then have a 120g and a 150g being freed up because I will be moving my aros into a 300 gallon tank.
Do any of you think keeping a dozen or so 1"convicts in the tank with the RDs would heplp stem aggression between the male and female? Or would they just end up as quick feeders?
I've got a surplus of convicts, I was breeding as feeders but my silver aro is limited to 2-3 per week so if the RDs eat them that would be fine. I am thinking also that they would be a target for aggression which could benefit the female RD.
