so i brought a betta home several weeks ago. quarantined him for several days, everything seemed good. BUT he had about 1/4 to 1/3 of his tail missing when i got him from the fish store [the top of his tail, not edges but the top portion down the whole length of his tail. base of his tail wasn't missing though and the skin of the tail is slowly but noticeable coming back]. everything else was fine, he was swimming well and eating well. two days ago i noticed what look kind of like red blisters at the ends of his fins. not everywhere, but he's got like two or three of them total. none on his tail though. it's difficult to tell if his fins are frayed at all, because he seems to be [if this is possible] a halfmoon/crowntail mix [got the big ol fins of halfmoon but the long-ish curly-Qs of the crowntail]. and there may or may not be a very tiny TINY bit of white at the end of his tail? it's really hard to tell with is coloring if it's a 1/10th of a millimeter of white or if it's just natural. he is still swimming around normally, though seems to perhaps eat a little bit less, but could be my imagination as i'm sure he was starved at the pet store so was eating more in the beginning. what might these red dots be? is it fin rot or could it be something else? my water params are all normal and i do 50% w/c 2-3 times a week
also, i'm not thinking this is part of it, but he's got two little "chunks" of fin missing as well. they occurred while he was in my dual betta tank with another betta [which they are not in now due to silicone problems.. both fish are in completely seperate tanks]. the other betta was somewhat aggressive to him for the first two days, flaring up at him [while this guy didn't pay any attention to the other]. and the new betta also liked to lay against the divider, and parts of his fins were sticking through, so unless fin rot makes chunks of fins fall off before any other noticeable symptoms show up, then i'm quite sure they're bites from the other betta. they look just like bites, rounded, not jaggedy. i have aquarium salt in there [as always] to help relieve irritation, and if you guys think i should put stress coat in there i will, but i'm wary of using chemicals in my water and very much prefer not to.
sorry for all the problems guys [as i posted before asking about the silicone in the tank these fish were in before], but i seem to be having a lot of problems with these little tanks... i'm not used to tanks under 20g at the least and right now i'm considering trying to see if this guy will get along with my little girl betta in my 45g just to get away from the small tank thing. i don't think it'll work though. and also sorry for the really long, very disorganized post. but if someone can help me i'd really appreciate it. i've looked through the diseases guide and didn't see anything about red dots...maybe i missed something though
