You all have seen this thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?573100-Red-dovii-(Xanthic-dovii) and I my self was a skeptic.
So I contacted the Owner of this fish (Mauricio) and he did confirm that his cousin collected the fish by the Costa Rican/Nicaraguan border.
So I decided to contact the one man I know and trust that would surely be able to verify this fish, Jeff Rapps!

He then replied,

Thanks for your email Mike.
Without even going to the link, I can tell you that Mauricio contacted me earlier this month – not long after acquiring the fish.

You see, I was contacted by one of his fish friends in CR who is getting fish from me.
When I informed our mutual acquaintance of my upcoming collecting trip to CR (my wife and I will be there in < 2 weeks!), he had Mauricio to contact me.

It’s a real fish. I’ve known of this morph for >30 years – just never had the opportunity to collect/acquire any.
That may be a reality in the near future.
If none are collected in the upcoming weeks, then still I should be able to secure some individuals post-visit as I’ve made sure Mauricio and my friend/the sole exporter of fresh water CR fish have each other’s emails for future correspondence.
Either way, if any additional reds are collected, they will make their way here.

I can not WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice! I thought this was a different CR morph, and not a hybrid. It will be cool to see these make it into the hobby.

Sometime in the future someone lucky may have a 20 + inch Red Dovii full body full fins pattern showing through and nuchal hump... No one person should have all that power.... Will be looking forward to see that day ..

Ill have to see it when the water is clearer. I generally don't like "morph's" for the sake of liking them, some do look good but others don't strike me as much. But still cool to get a different variety in the hobby.

Nice stock. I have to ask though, what are the roots hanging down? I like how they look.
