I’m trying to remove the impeller for general de-scaling maintenance but I’ll be darned if I can get it out of the housing. The manual warns of being careful to not let the strong magnet put it out of your fingers while removing but I can’t even get it to START to come out. I even used big flat screw drivers behind the flange to pry it out but only chipped the corners.
There must be a good trick to get the leverage needed to remove this thing.

Have you tried a gear puller? They are little grabber things that gently grab around parts and then you can slowly screw down on it to remove. They are the best way to remove stuff stuck on a shaft gently.

Don't have any better ideas. Im using an ecotech and waveline and they jusy come right out.

How do you like the red dragon?

I had a red dragon on my skimmer back when I was crazy. I don't remember anything special about it's disassembly. Got a pic or two?

I love it.

I've got a 300 gallon with a Bean Animal overflow and the flexibility of the DC pump gives the ability to not only tune the overflow but the pump output also. Man, you can really fine tune the system. You just change the output wattage to any flow you'd like. And it's a 150 watt unit so you can get A LOT of flow if you need it but yet the pump is silent. I also like the feeding cycle. You press a button and the pump idles down to a timed, predetermined output. I adjusted to be just enough flow to keep all my plumbing from draining down and yet not loose any food over the overflow.

The only drawback is the price. I bought it for the long haul but don't tell my wife what i spent. But you can spend MUCH more for the Abyss.

I didn't take any pictures while I had the pump out but this is a picture from the manual.
It pretty much matches how the pump looks. I guess I need to pull harder but you really start to second guess yourself when you put that much pressure on something. I had eight finger tips pulling on the flange and no way could I get it to come out. At that time I thought I had better re-group, put it back together, and be sure i knew what the heck I was doing.

Yup, you dont have to sell me on DC pumps as that's what I use too. Always looking to learn about other products.

True that on Abyss! For that price you should get it hand delivered and installed by super models LOL.

Try twisting as you pull.
