i have a 20gal tall tank filled about 70% up with a little spot for my res i am going to get this week he is only the size of a 50cent peice and i was thinking about getting a fish to put in the thank with him. has anyone done this be for? my lfs has about a 7inch red tail barb i was thinking would make a cool tank mate.. any advice on what kind of fish/animal as a tank mate

A fish would more than likely end up as food. Make sure you have some sort of land/platform for the little guy

yeah i have a platform for him and ive had res before but not a baby one and i dont want to waste a 20g for a baby turtle.. the guy im getting it from says hes had it for 2 years and was the size of a quarter when he got it.. so im guessing ther not gana grow that fast and i doubt it would be able to eat a 7-8inch fish

Ummm, if he has only grow that much in two years he has not been taken care of properly. He needs his UV, his basking, an a varied diet. I doubt thats why he didn't grow. He should be 4-5 inches now.

Rad's right; he should be larger now. In fact, both my RES were about 4" in one year. Get him in a larger tank with the correct lighting and a varied diet. Don't worry about wasting a 20 gal on a turtle. He'll outgrow it soon enough.

You can try to the whole "fish as a buddy" thing, but it'll will end up as food sooner or later, or in the very least, all of his fins nipped off. Don't waste money on a TF barb and just throw guppies or danios in there instead.

what if i were to get another res to put in with it about 4-5inches... or how would i go about finding a local turtle breeder or some other way to get a hatchling/small slider for educational purposes of course
