I just rescued a poor 5'' (shell only) female red eared slider. I got her at a pet store that doesn usually have turtles but someone abandoned her and the pet store jammed he in a tank tha looked about 5 or 6 gallons she couldnt even turn around :( So I got her and shes in a 30 gallon tank untill the pond is finishd in a couple days.. :grinyes:

Does anyone what they eally like eating ? Ive tried crickets and turtle food and she won't eat it..

i have a male res, about the same size as yours. have you tried the reptomin variety pack? it comes in a fish food size jar with a lid that spins so you can select different foods, comes with reptomin, freeze dried shrimp, and freeze dried krill. mine usually prefers the shrimp, but they are more of a treat than a staple.

you could also try some feeder fish, i usually go for the comet goldfish. The main problem with using them is that they can have parasites, worms and such, which can be passed to your turt.

res's also are more vegetarians as age, although they will still prefer the shrimp and whatnot over vegies. keeping them on a diet too high in protein can cause pyramiding of the carapace. but while trying to nurse a sick turtle back to health, the higher protein isn't a problem.

if you need more info, try browsing through:

when you're housing her, make sure that you platform of some sort (rock, etc) that she can get on and be totally out of the water, along with a uvb lamp on the same location.

if you rescue dher she still may be in shock and not eating or does she spit it out i found my RES in a river at about 4 inches now its about 7-8 inches maybe the shell about 3-4 years later? i feed her crickets minnows pellets flys worms and she is a 55 with a painted turtle and 2 feeders that she didnt eat have been in there for about 2 years and have gotten pretty big try and wait a couple of days my turtles are pigs

get her to a vet

have her checked out via fisical (visual examination)

and have her stool tested for internal parasites

the fisical should be about $40 and the stool test should be about $20

Meh, never did. Shes fine now. bout 8'' and everyone says she looks SUPER healthy. :)

it is not unusual for them not to eat after that trauma and they can go months without eating.

however a vet visit is not a bad idea and a worming to

nice comments dont mean anything, they could be morons for all i know.

have her checked out, its not expensive as you think.

do you want to pay for problems that may suddenly apear out of the blue and manifest in the furture?

i can see a future thread already " my turtle died and i dont know why! :( " and the usual "sorry for the loss"
