The base of my large Red Zebra's left pectoral fin seems enflamed. It seems thicker than the other side with a few small red dots on it. Also, he seems to avoid using that fin and he seems really bothered by it, rubbing it on everything and jerking around.

Does anyone know if this is bacterial or parasitic? Is it a form of fin rot? Any advice on how to treat it? Everything else on him seems fine...:(

So far, I've just put him in a small seperate tank, I'm using melafix/pimafix combo, temp is at 80-82 degrees and I've added salt. I'm also keeping the lights off and a cover over the tank...

Thanks for any advice!

I would use a broad spectrum antibiotic. Hope he gets better.

No, I haven't. But, he seems to be doing a little bit better. He's not rubbing it much anymore and he's using it again. He had stopped eating for a couple of days, but It seems like he's gotten his appitite back.

I have added salt, did a large water change, and I've kept the lights off most of the time. I've kept the temp. up around 82-84 degrees and added melafix and Pimafix. I will try the Antibiotics like Chicklette suggested...

The enflamation seems to have gone down and the coloring isn't so red, but there are still a few tiny red dots on the base of the fin...

I hope your fish gets better!

I hope yours does too! My LFS suggested I use clout medication. I'll let you know how mine goes :) Mine have just started to lose their appetite too, but I think it's stress from being put in the quarantine tank.
