I have 7 juvenile Red Festae which in all my years in the hobby are thus far the best Ive ever tended to aside from my Ocellaris. I have seen many pics of juveniles that have more of a red hue to the body and black stripes. When I received them they all had the same characteristics as so but some seem to be losing the stripes and not too much of a red hue tothem. Is this a natural stage to the fish losing their colours? Could it be a diet issue? Ive even heard that lighting can affect the fish as well. All but one are about an inch to inch and a half anf the largest is about two and a half inches. The largest has nice blue speckling on the dorsals and pecs but again with this fish it has only but a couple of black spots left on body. Just curious if the colouration comes when once theyre larger and if they have a cycle of losing and gaining colouration. Hope this makes sense and someone can help. Thx all

My 5 juvenile were just the same until they are 3''. After 3'' they became easy to sex.
Below is one of my males (3.5''). Note the color and the pearls around the body and fins.

Below is one of the females (3''). Note the color, limited amount of pearls around the body and the coloration of the dorsal fin (black at the front).

I have also seen such a female in the forum. No stripe, but dorsal fin suggests this is a definite female.

And below is my 11'' male. Note the very fade stripes, green color and pearls.
