Red Festae is a very elementary, incorrect name for Ex-Cichlasoma Festae. Generally Festae do have some red pigment incorporated in their basic patterns, usually females. And both sexes exhibit red finnage. But Festae afficiandos never call them Red Festae, Red Terror, True Red Terror, nor Red Banded Devil as they were called back in the 70's. We simply call them Festae. And when we are looking to purchase, we basically ask 1 question, " are they wild caught or F1?" Terms such as F2, F3, Eff11, tank/pond raised, etc. are foreign to us.
The sheer brilliance and tempermental nature of Festae speak for themselves. And although many sites list their common name as Red Terror, this is a gross error in nomenclature because the Mayan(Urophthalmus) is now called Red Terror, and in the early 90's, 2 forms of Red Devil(Banded Midas & Labiatum) were also called Red Terror. Someone sold a new Pet Shop owner a pair of Red Festae. And sure enough, the female was a Festae, but the male was a banded Labiatum. And he had been advertising them as Festae Red Terrors. Of course he did this in ignorance. But the point is the term Red Terror can describe any one of 4 different fish. And to the unedjucated, a Mayan(Urophthalmus) could easily be considered a Red Festae, especially as juveniles. There's a lot of confusion in the hobby that needs to be cleared up, and the Festae-Red Terror terminology is at the heart of it.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have been looking for some festae for awhile now. I am interested to see if you are going to be selling any of the fry. Please let me know. Thanks for your time.
