I've got 2 Female Hermans tortioses, one at 6" and one at 5". And i love these guys to bit. I wondered if i could keep a 5" Female Red footed tortiose with these? I know that you shouldn't really mix different species of tortioses but has anybody tried it? I know their max size and would mgive them a suitable home. Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. Their habitat requirements are too different. And RFT's require high humidity that the Hermans don't need.

BWB apart from the habitat and dietry differences never mix hermans with any other chelonia. They are terrible for carrying pathogens that are lethal to other species.
My Hermans are at the end of the garden and I feed them last so I dont carry anything from their enclosures into the others.

Extreme but you cant be too careful. Hermans are well hardy so I would get another one of those; even so qurantine it away from your originals incase it brings anything to the party!!

I seperate mine for a whole year until they are up and feeding again after hibernation.

The LFS near Bolty and me alays mix there torts and wonder why they have RNS etc.

Thanks for the info.

dont ever mix species...EVER(with the exception of redfoots and yellow foots) most torts are all going to require different habitats an what one may need (humidity in the RFTs case) the other doesnt (your hermans) second they are likely from different breeders so you dont know what pathogens and bacteria they are carrying and it is possible that they can transfer these to other torts whom may not be able to resist and fight the bacteria causing your torts to get sick or possibly die...any herman from any breeder will carry different levels of deifferent pathogens and bacteria but if one herman can fight it/handle it another healthy herman can too...what a redfoot can handle/fight doesnt mean that hermans, sulcats, greeks, horsefields or any other tort can they are all different immune systems, digestive bacteria, respitory bactias and all that. redfoots and yellows are the same torts just different colors pretty much so that is why it is widely accepted that you can mix those species but even then some keepers insist that they still shouldnt be mixed...hope that explanation made sense
