i'm using 20-40grit garnet sand on my rays and bichirs. Ive tried other samples sent to me but it seems this grit is the perfect size for my needs.

it's sandblasting sand/garnet. If you know of a local sandblasting shop, you can get it there - way cheaper as well. I've got mine from http://www.riversands.com.au/filter-garnet and they sell it as a water filtration sand as well. it's not local, but you can see specs and sizes on the webpage. If I remember correctly cost me <$30 for a 25kg bag.
