I currently have 2 red/gold severums showing signs of breeding for the first time. They just recently had a huge tank upgrade to a 120gallon. They have been constantly lip locking and tail slapping. I am new to any type of fish breeding. In the tank is a few other cichlids and some loaches, do I need to remove everyone from the tank? Any other helpful tips or tricks to help them be successful in the future?

Could you post some pics/videos? Lip locking sounds more like fighting to me.
Severums are pretty mild, and you can likely get away with them keeping the young in the tank, but for the best yield you can separate the offspring. It takes a few tries for the parents to get it right.
