Haven't had any luck finding red garnet sand. Previously attempted the red aquasand, mixed with blue, black, tan mix. Lots of them are too fine and float and get sucked in filters. Pursuit the red because results here have been proven many times over. So, if garnet sand is not accessible. I'd recommend the poor man's version for guaranteed poly results. Trick is to find a darker red gravel, because it lightens in color once submerged in water. A light red will turn closer to a pink.

Just try it! Let me know what your thoughts are before, and inputs if you do try it afterwards. Here is my PBB not long after introducing gravel. Watch it under the 480-720p HD setting if possible or close to it. Color and markings is getting better by the day!

Thanks jaws.

I've been contemplating doing red gravel fir some time now. It's 4-5$ for every 5lb bag and under 20$ for 25lb bag. In the back of my mind I always that Switchng to gravel is tacky. Not sure why. All I did was place about 45lbs on top of my current sand (red, blue, black, tan). Never was pleased with that result. Polys were bland and colors didn't pop out. Well guys...... Red gravel did the trick!!!!!! Just thought I share with my fellow poly keepers.

Tlindsey - it enhanced almost every poly. all Endlicheri, Dabola, even captive bred lap, and CB lap too (surprising). I'll send pics of those laps as well soon.

Red mixed with a little black would be cool too!

Here's the Dabola laying on the red sea.

U need to add black because pure red will not make the colors pop like they should a little black will bring out the dark tones in their color while the red will retain the lighter tones
