Red Head Geos Ready to go!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a pair of altifrons that spawn in the community tank. After they fertilize the eggs the parents immediately put them in their mouths. They should be able to keep others away. Then once the fry are free swimming unable to scoop them out of the tank.

A ten gallon tank isn't going I be big enough for them to spawn, so you don't have much choice but to wait and see. Good luck

I see. Thank you guys for the input! What do you guys think is the minimum tank size in order for the pair to spawn? Should I move them or leave them? The spot they chose is empty so do you suggest adding a rock to their spawn site? Is there something I can do to trigger the spawn? Sorry for all the questions! This is my first time with a pair of fish haha. Thank you in advance!

Probably a tank that was 36" by 18" to themselves.

I personally would leave the pair until they have a few spawns under their belt. Do you have any driftwood in the tank? They could lay eggs on the driftwood or rounded rocks.

What size tank do you have?

I would think a 40 breeder minimum for the pair by themselves. The eggs probably would get eaten in your community tank, mine stop guarding the eggs when the lights go out and they get eaten the first night.

Separate the pair and breed them in another tank, it might take them a while to settle down but other than that you don't got to worry about other fish bothering them and the fries.
