i am thinking of getting one at lfs by my work place, did a little research on them, just want someone else's opinion

I have only owned one. Mine was moderately active, in a 90gal and then later a 125. I kept him in with larger africans and then later medium CA/SA. He was not too aggressive and never really attacked anything that he did not want to eat. He ate flakes/pellets/shrimp mostly, and I had mine eating out of my hand. If I remember he got to about 7-8" before I sold him. All around a good personality. IMO much better than a regular wolf..

I have never owned a Red Hi fin wolf, but i do own a "regular"wolf.I dont find him super aggressive but he is always hungry(kinda like an Oscar)he will eat anything that fits in his mouth(and has!!!)Others have claimed that these are boring fish, but my wolf has a personality all of his own.As far as tankmates go,i wouldnt keep any fish that i really liked with your wolf.Just my 2 cents!!

I have kept 3 red hi fins(3,4, & 7") in the last 6 years at seperate times. All of mine were pretty inactive which can be expected. This is not a guarantee, every fish is diffferent but that was my experience. A good thing about this species is the max size they attain, I personally have never seen one over 8". I blv. they max around 11-12".
They are cool fish for a 40 breeder for life. Of course you have to be very careful with covering all sections of the top of your tank, they will thread the needle very easily. My largest one spent his first 2 days in my tank(55g) smashing the top glass. After that he just gave up. They are supposedly less aggressive than hoplias sp., but I have no personal exp. on that since all mine were kept solitary.

How's it going! I'm a new member to this site. I am a fellow wolf fish enthusiast, & I live in So-Cal. I would really like to purchase a couple of those Ery.Rainbow wolves' asap. Would really appreciate some info. on that store location. Name or ph#. Hope to hear somthing soon! that would save me the shipping cost of ordering from back east! thanx!! Bignootch

I had the pleasure of keeping two Ery. wolves. One "4 Rainbow & one "6 Orange belly- or Red-Hifin.Anyway i kept them for maybe four & half months. The red-hifin was pretty shy, it would wait until I was away from the tank before it would feed. Now the rainbow, was hell on fins. It would meet my fingers at the top of the tank, to get it's ration of chopped raw tiger shrimp. It would also attack my fish net, when I would retrieve the dead plant leaves from the tank. One day I got home from work to find the rainbow's body badly mangled at the hands' or shall I say teeth, of the red-hifin. I got discusted and traded the fish to a local fish store. But I've got to get another ery.rainbow wolf!! sorry for the long post, I'm new!!! The Ery.Rainbow wolf is a beautiful, inquisitive, and down right pugnacious little monster when it want to be!
